University of New Hampshire students Mallorie Patterson, left , and Kanoa King, right, defy Mother Nature’s wintery grasp as they trudge between classes while the first major snowstorm of the winter season smothered the Durham campus on Wednesday.

The New Hampshire (TNH) is UNH’s student-run undergraduate newspaper and has been in print since 1911. Every Tuesday and Friday, the TNH puts out about 5,000 copies to the UNH campus and the surrounding towns of Durham, Dover, Newmarket, and Portsmouth. The newspaper is funded by a combination of the Student Activity Fee and advertising, which allows for free distribution to the UNH student body. In the above photograph, TNH’s editors put together the latest edition of the paper on a busy weekday night. The paper has popular features such as “Thumbs Up & Down” and “Like a Pro,” and it features regular columns by students on such issues as religion in college and “Frosh Voices,” a blog that gives incoming freshman a chance to share their experiences.  TNH also allows for students opinions to be heard about various issues by publishing letters to the editor and polling students on their Web site. —Jeff Moyer ‘11

History comes ALIVE in this musical greeting card to our American past. Journey through song across the history and culture of our nation from the years 1890 to 1917. Familiar songs like “Yankee Doodle Dandy” and “Bill Bailey Won’t You Please Come Home” are woven together with the stories of five archetypal characters from that era: a Chaplin-esque immigrant, socialist Emma Goldman, an African-American domestic worker, Teddy Roosevelt and Ziegfield Follies star and pin-up girl, Anna Held.  Tintypes runs December 2 through December 6 in the Hennessy Theatre. Kelly Paton, Kacey Bellamy, Micaela Long and Courtney Birchard met at center ice following the Team USA’s victory over Women’s Hockey East All-Stars at the Whittemore Center on Sunday, November 22. Bellamy, playing for Team USA was a University of New Hampshire Women’s Ice Hockey team captain last year, had a goal and an assist in the game. University of New Hampshire Women’s Ice Hockey teammates Paton, Long, and Birchard played for the Women’s Hockey-East All-Stars. Team USA defeated the Women’s Hockey-East All-Stars 4-0. EG

The University of New Hampshire Wildcats defeated the University of Maine Black Bears, 27-24, in rival gridiron action that brought the Brice-Cowell Musket back to Cowell Stadium on Saturday despite a head-over-heals interception by Maine defensive back Trevor Coston (3) that robbed UNH wide receiver Mickey Manqieri (11) of a touchdown pass.  The 10th-ranked Wildcats seized the CAA North Division title for the second consecutive season and will be making its sixth straight appearance in the NCAA Division I Championships when it travels to play No. 8 McNeese State in a first-round matchup on Saturday, November 28, at 2 p.m. central time at Cowboy Stadium in Lake Charles, La.

Best-selling cookbook author and chef, Mollie Katzen, signed her new book, Get Cooking, and spoke with guests, during lunch at Holloway Commons on Friday. Katzan will join Whittemore School of Business Hospitality Management students who will be hosting a “Simply Southern” gourmet dinner at Stillings Marketplace Friday and Saturday. Saturday’s dinner is sold out, but tickets for tonight’s gathering are still available for $50 dollars, and can be purchased online at www.wsbe.unh.edu/gourmetdinner.

The New Hampshire Outing Club (NHOC), one of the University’s oldest student groups, gives students opportunities to experience the great outdoors in hikes and other fun activities. In the picture above, first-year students Dan Broman, Eric Gotthold, Chris Dorich, and Kat Vollinger stand on top of Mount Washington after a seven day hike for incoming freshmen through the mountains of northern New Hampshire. This trip takes place in August of every year for members of the incoming freshman class, and is intended to cultivate leadership in the group and bonds between old and new members. Bo Burnham,  a nineteen-year-old comedian from Boston, will perform live at the UNH Field House on Dec. 11. Burnham’s popular YouTube videos, Comedy Central special, and his collaboration with comedians like Dane Cook and Joel McCale has made him a star.
