Memorial Day may be over, but memories of New Hampshire’s war dead are kept alive at the War Memorial room at the MUB. Recently, a visitor left this picture, of Raymond L. Paradis, a Nashua soldier who was killed in Vietnam in May 1970. Paradis was an Army photographer when the helicopter he was in was shot down as it returned to the Pleiku army base in Vietnam from a combat mission in Cambodia.
The photograph, with a rubbing of Paradis’s name taken from “The Wall” at the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C., included no note or clue as to who left it, or why.
Dedicated in 1953 by former governor Hugh Gregg, the Memorial Union Building (MUB) is the official State of New Hampshire war memorial and student union.
Quiet and bathed in light filtering through a stained glass wall, the Memorial Room is open for silent reflection.

Walk New Hampshire
June 4, 2009
Walkers from UNH and Durham joined Walk NH to promote good health.
About 200 people took part in Walk NH on Wednesday, walking either a 1.5-mile or 3-mile route around Durham and the UNH campus. The walk was one of several around the state designed to encourage people of all ages to get out and get moving. Gov. John Lynch proclaimed this week as Walk NH Week. Participants are encouraged to make walking part of their everyday routine.
The event was created by the nonprofit Foundation for Healthy Communities, and sponsored by the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation.

A Wildcat Welcome
June 1, 2009
Incoming freshmen arrived on campus Monday for orientation.
Incoming freshmen were greeted with cheers, music, high-fives, and fist-bumps as they arrived on campus Monday for first-year orientation. Kerri Wall (right), of Providence, R.I., enjoys a spirited welcome from orientation staffers Sarah Kelley, Michele DiOrio, and Haley Harper. Over two days, the students will meet with academic advisers, register for fall classes, eat in Holloway Commons, get official UNH IDs, and learn the ins and outs of campus and downtown.
